Brattle Street / Tory Row
About This Exhibition
Brattle Street, known historically as "Tory Row," is one of the most beautiful residential streets in New England. Before the American Revolution, wealthy Loyalist families built grand Georgian mansions along this tree-lined street. When war broke out, the Tories fled and patriot leaders moved in — George Washington headquartered at the Longfellow House (105 Brattle). Today, the street retains its aristocratic charm with impeccably preserved 18th and 19th-century homes, mature trees, and a walkable connection from Harvard Square to Mount Auburn Cemetery.
