About This Exhibition
Christ Church is the oldest surviving church building in Cambridge, designed by Peter Harrison (America's first architect) and completed in 1761. During the American Revolution, the Loyalist congregation fled and Continental Army troops used the building as barracks, melting its organ pipes into musket balls. Martha and George Washington worshipped here on New Year's Eve 1775. Teddy Roosevelt taught Sunday school here as a Harvard student. The church remains an active Episcopal parish.
